eco-art: a synthesis of beauty and function: plants in a sculptural greywater bio-filter
I have come to view eco-art as an inspired and profound way of putting across the message about sustainability, energy decline and climate change. Sometimes, when you simply talk about things seriously (you know, like a grown up), you just get ignored. Art that can inspire and educate at the same time might do more to capture the imagination.
At the moment, I am doing so much conceptual thinking about our society, sustainability and plant-human biosystems, that I need an outlet for them that just doesn't fit any other form of expression. Things like green walls or urban design have to be expressed in commercial terms, while art knows no such restriction.
Whilst I consider much of my work to be art (a subjective viewpoint, I know), I have rarely consciously donned the mantle of professional artist. This is set to change over the coming year, as I start to exhibit my prototype sculptures. I'm not going to say too much now, other than all combine some form of utility and beauty. Many works will use recycled materials or “found art”: all will be exciting! Keep watching this page for updates.
